The domain metallomics2011.org commemorates Metallomics 2011, the Third International Symposium on Metallomics, a scientific meeting that brought together the international community studying the biological, analytical, and toxicological roles of metals and metalloids in living systems. The event was held at the University of Münster, Germany, from June 15 to 18, 2011, with more than 320 participants from 39 countries.

What is Metallomics

Metallomics is an “omics” discipline that systematically investigates the presence, distribution, speciation, and functions of metals and metalloids in biological systems, with implications ranging from biochemistry and medicine to ecotoxicology and environmental analysis.

Topics and Focus Areas

The scientific program fostered interdisciplinary dialogue on topics such as:

• Speciation and imaging of metals/metalloids in cells and tissues
• Advanced analytical techniques (ICP-MS, LC-ICP-MS, LA-ICP-MS, etc.)
• Physiological roles and toxicological effects of essential and non-essential metals
• Environmental and biomedical applications of metallomics
